Do you Keep Track of all your Comments?

Last night, when I was reading through different blogs and commenting on some really interesting posts, this thought crossed my mind. You see, every morning when I check my email, there are a lot of follow up messages, because I always choose to receive notification if possible.

This morning however, there were so many notifications of comments that it kind of got annoying to see my whole inbox filled with automaticly generated messages that it made me think about this a bit more. So while I was preparing my morning coffee, I thought I should ask you guys.

Do you keep track of all the comments you make on other blogs? Do you go back to see if the author has taken the time to reply? If you do keep track, do you just write down where you commented, or are you only commenting on the same blogs time and again?

Would you comment again on a blog, if you see the author does not reply to the comments he receives or do you make a difference in judgement between small blogs and the huge ones, who´s author will be receiving tens or even hundreds of comments a day, accepthing that the “big blog owner” is probably way too busy to reply to all of them?

    Mirjam:

In most of case, I did subscribe comment. So I will receive an email for follow up. I sometimes receive an email from a post that I commented a year ago.

That brought me back to the original post and read again. I always glance the comment email and ignore it, if I don’t feel interested to continue the conversation.

      Hi Terence,
At present I am doing the same, but only when I kind of expect a comment back, like for example having asked a question about the post written, or something like that. My mailbox does seem to get a bit messy though  that is why I asked the question in the first place, wanting to know how others deal with this. Good to know I am not the only one :D

    Hi Mirjam,

First of all, a comment without a reply will definitely get me consider not commenting on that blog again. If that’s an a-list blog with hundreds of comments, I would less expect one, but be delighted to receive one.

I comment on a previously chosen list of blogs (which is always being updated).

I don’t usually subscribe to notifications and visit that blog again. Doing this gives me the following benefits:

    1. It keeps my inbox free of notifications.
    2. I’m contributing to that blog’s pageviews count (”giving is receiving”).
    3. I get to notice other important issues while visiting numerous times the same blog (design, layout, older articles that suit my interests)

    Cheers.

      Hi Alex,
thanks for commenting, I have noticed the same thing aswell, expecting atleast some recognition for the time I have taken to reply in case the blog is not a huge one, yet always glad to see the author of it actually takes the time to reply to all comments, no matter the size of the blog.

Going to have a look at your new post now, fetting paid for “fooling” around, isn´t that what we would all love to do….

It depends. If I am really interested in something and I am waiting for a response from the author or from other people taking part in that discussion , I would follow up on them.
On the other hand, if I can contact an author by mail or through a community, I’d do so in the first place.

      Hi Chris,
Does that mean you would also leave comments on blogs, eventhough you aren´t really interested in seeing the response of the author?

Yes, I usually subscribe for comment replies, in case somebody replies to mine and ask things. I don’t expect blog authors to respond every comment I made, but I’d be glad if they do. If they reply to my comments, my mind automatically enters the blog into my sub-conscious mind resulting my regular visit and comment to their blog

If they don’t, I don’t take it too much and I still comment.

btw, thanks for dropping a comment, Mirjam!
All the best for you and Me Myself and I!

Hey Louis, thank you, for stopping by ;) That is an interesting thought, blogs entering into your sub-conscious, but I can imagine some do. Never looked at it that way! Thanks for pointing that out to me ;)

I have weeks where I am really good at commenting back to commenters, and some where I’m just on a writing spree, or redesigning, etc..and I leave the comments go, and I’ve seen other sites do the same sometimes - I try, and I tend to give the site owner credit - they’re busy trying their best as well, but responding to each comment is definitely a good way to get exposure - when I was featured on John Chow - I responded to every little comment left on his site about my site.

      Hi Patrick
I hear you on the comments and believe you are right. I do hope I will be able to reply to each and every comment left on this page, because I highly appreciate the time those people have taken to respond. Good luck with your blog!
