Google Pagerank Update!

celebratingAlready read it in Court´s blog a few days ago, there is a PageRank Update going on.

I really did not expect too much of it, since this blog is only 3-4 months old and I haven´t really paying a lot of attention to what I should do in order to get a PR.

I have been outlinking a lot to other blogs and turned dofollow on relatively early in the game, so there is linkjuice flowing out of this blog like a small river. I did not think I would get any PR this soon so my new PR3 is a little reason to take out the bubbles and celebrate!

Congratulations to my friend Jose who finally went from PR1 to PR3. And of course congratulations to my friend Alex for his new PR3. He was the first to contact me and tell me about the update this morning and I was really happy to see we both got a PR3 since we started with our blogs around the same time.

Looks like it is going to be a good day today, hopefully this lucky strike will continue for me since I am participating in two competitions ending today, the huge one Marcus Hochstadt is running and the $25 contest going on on webdigging and if you are participating in them, I wish you good luck!

Update:

I was looking at my other sites to see what had happened with all the PR over there, and there was this really strange thing… I have a blog that is not even 2 months old, on a new domain, hardly update it, haven´t been promoting it or anything, it has only a few inbound links and there are only 4 articles there.

Basically the only thing I did was setting up the site with 4 keyword optimized articles and kind of forgot about it.
And guess what… It also got PR3 according to my firefox toolbar!

How strange is that?!

Even stranger, when going to google.com and checking the site through the SEO for Firefox add on, it shows up in the Google Search Engine for a mayor keyword with a PR3 on the main domain and PR2 for the other indexed pages.

Just for the fun of it: it has an Alexa of 24,000,000 something according to the SEO for Firefox tool

I almost fell off my chair when I saw that, and it does make me wonder about the importance of PR and what it really tells us??

I suppose it will all go back down to PR0 once the update is finished, right?

One of my parked domains had a PR2 and I can’t find any backlinks on Google. It made this whole PR thing a lot more confusing for me.

    Congratulations.

I have no idea how to check what my PR is but considering I am not even quite 3 weeks into my new site I think I can wait.

I had 3 new sites that all had no pr jump to pr 5,4, and 3.

I’m not sure that it means anything, but it sure feels good huh?

    :O)

Congrats, Pagerank increases are always nice.

Most of my sites stayed the same except for one’s I left on the backburner and forgot about. Those went up. Strange.

Pagerank is a better indicator than Alexa numbers because Google actually uses it in search engine rankings. There are a lot of other factors. But I see it like this. If I have a blog about Ebay and another person has a blog about Ebay and I have higher Pagerank for my domain, chances are, if we write similar posts, mine will rank higher.

Of course, Pagerank is “page” rank. And a site as as whole can be carrying a lot more hidden rank with deep links even though it’s homepage isn’t really up there.

I actually found a place to make a comment.
What exactly is Page Rank? I know it the rank your Page gets. Does it work the opposite way of your ranking with the search engine? With SE you want to be ranked 1.
So much to learn……so little time.

Hi Joyce, good to see you here!
PageRank is devised by Google, it measures not only how many links point to a website, but the “quality” of the sites providing the links.

It goes from PR0 to PR10, 10 being the highest you can get :D

It is different from being ranked in the search engines, because in the search engines people are looking for keywords and pages turn up in order of importance on certain keywords.

PageRank however is attached to the whole site (or per page of your site) and not attached to keywords

      Hope that helps :)
