8 WP Plugins to Improve Your Blog
I´ve been working a bit backstage on changing this blog and part of that work consisted of adding some new plugins that improve your blog and updating to a newer version of wordpress, which then made my theme go into all sorts of hoops and tricks, basically having to re-do the theme again.
Anyways, not wanting to bore you with my technical skills or the lack there of, let´s have a look at the new WP plugins that hopefully make visiting and interacting on this blog more pleasurable.
Add to Any: Share/Save/Bookmark Button
Basically what this plugin does is helping readers share, save, bookmark, and email your posts and pages using any service. You can see this in action at the bottom of each post and it now gives you the opportunity to share anything you thought was interesting with anybody… social networks, on squidoo lenses, send it to your pals through emails etc etc and hey, while you are at it, why not favorite this blog on Technorati! *wink* *wink*
Contextual Related Posts
I already had a similar plugin like this but for one reason or another, the other version stopped working so I had to find one compatible with wp 2.7 and up. This one does the trick neatly, offering you posts that are related to the one you just read and hopefully make you want to keep on reading other bits of my writing.
Quote Comments
This wp plugin creates a little quote icon in comment boxes and when you click on it, the comment will be copied into the comment box, making it easier for you guys to respond directly to a certain comment. I know it might not be as good as a threaded comment plugin but I have yet to find one that is compatible with both this version of WP and the theme. You can just delete the part you don´t want to quote, leaving the part that triggered your response.
WPSuperQuiz
I will be playing around with this WP Quiz Plugin in the near future and see if it is any good. It looked promising so far so I thought I´d mention it in this post for now. What the plugin does (or should do once I figure out how it works) is give the opportunity to run quizes … I thought it would be a good one to do the occasional survey or maybe run a small contest to share some of my earnings from the One Week Marketing Plan.
WP Ajax Edit Comments
Long awaited but finally it is installed… for those of you that hit the submit button without thinking *wink* and then wanting to go back to change your comments, drumroll please…………… Now you can!
Front-end Editor
This plugin is actually pretty neat, because I won´t have to go back into the administrator panel in order to change posts or edit comments from my visitors. Not that I do a lot of editing comments anyways, you are either in or you are out LOL, no rocket science there.
WP Security Scan
About time to do a bit more about the security of this blog so I thought I´d test this one out.
WP-Donators
Last but certainly not least, this plugin has a lot of features to monetize your blog, well in this case monetize my blog. So that is going to be another one I will be playing around with and see if it is worth installing on other sites.
Gotta say, the more I use WordPress, the more I love it. I had already started using WP 2.7 on several new sites and at first I was completely disgusted with the changed admin panel, but now that I have gotten used to it, I started liking it better. The “instal a new plugin” option is really excellent though. No more having to download, unzip, upload, activate anymore, you just search for the one you want, hit “install”, it checks whether the plugin is compatible with your version and than installs it automatically. What a time saver!
Now I better control myself and stop looking for more plugins or I´ll end up with a zillion plugins that I won´t be using in the end.
Let me know what you think of these changes and if you find the installed plugins helpful, so please leave a comment and hey, if you are a good mood, check out that “add and share” plugin at the bottom of this post *wink*

Well this is a different “plugin post”
.
If your still interested in a threaded comments plugin, you may not have tried mine…it took me a while to find it and it wasn’t through a search engine.
Shoot me an email, I’m going to bed.

Great list, although I have not ran into a Related Posts plugin I like yet. I’m super anal-retentive about matching particular articles with posts, and none of the plugins I’ve tried so far matched anything well. Maybe the 2.7 compatible ones will fare better.. once I upgrade, I’ll give them a shot again.

hi Kikolani
I think there are a few more “advanced” ones that let you configure your specific wants and needs, but they are only for 2.7.1

Great list! I have not tried all those on my new blog on my new project. I have learned that the AddToAny may annoy some of your readers, who are confused with so many icon to post to. So they decide not to add your blog post to anywhere.
You should consider to just list those icons that actually works. For example, Tweet this, facebook and delicious are most used icons. People tend to share post with those trusted icons.
Just my 2 cents.

hey Terence!
and thanks for your opinion, I will certainly think about it
I added that one more than anything because of the email option, find that nice myself whenever I come across an interesting article, to send it to my own mail box to keep track of it.
always great to see you around here
take care you, will answer the email shortly

Hi Mirjam,
I know you’re in the middle of your time away, but when you get back, the last one on your list, at least as of today’s date, has had its account suspended. Too bad, as that’s the only one I wanted to check out.
