I have been in this business for quite a few years now and I can´t remember the number of times that I have become sidetracked because of the shiny object syndrome I seem to be infected with.

In fact, I believe 95% of people who try to make a living online, don´t make it, because they can not get rid of that shiny object virus. It is just so much easier to keep believing there is a secret trick to making huge amounts of money, without putting in the work it takes. But in the end, you will find that you either quite, or wise up and start doing the work it takes to build the income.

On my path, I have been lucky to find a few great resources that gave me the information and education I needed, to make a living online.

I owe a huge thank you to the fellows at The Keyword Academy, for getting me in the right mindset and teach me how to do proper keyword research and set up websites that would get traffic. They have given me the foundation of knowledge that I needed and even though they have changed their ways of teaching, I still believe that their path is the right one, especially now that they are showing people how to build quality sites.

Tons of content publishing on a solid wp blog!

Maybe it sounds too simple for most of you, but I am just sharing what works for me. Now, in order to make this income stream as solid and bombproof as possible, and be able to focus JUST on content creation, I have picked 3 different blogs that I will work on in 2012, not more.

Apart from the huge injection of content that I am planning on, I want to make sure that the blogs themselves are as strong as possible, for which I will have to maximize the on-site SEO.

With that thought in mind, I recently bought SEO Duct Tape, a 298 page ebook that fully focuses on the creation of a high quality wp blog.

I started reading the book the other day and it is fully and utterly in line with what I have been seeing past year. In fact, even though the book is mainly targeting people new to internet marketing, I have found several bits of advice already, that have made it worth buying this book.

What I really like is the fact, that it is by no means a shiny object. Instead, it offers solid advice on how to set up and run a solid, high quality blog, that you can easily rank in the SERP´s. It is about getting traffic to your site without having to build thousands and thousands of links. In fact, on page 29, it confirms my findings that “one needs far fewer external links than many want you to believe are necessary. ” And “that gets at the heart of this book, if fewer external links are needed, you´ll save money promoting your websites”.

So why did I get so excited about this statement? (and the book is full of golden bits like that!) Because it is a confirmation of what I have seen, but was too scared to believe, because so many people try to trick you into believing that huge amounts of links are needed.

Honestly…. if you have no clue what you are doing, building thousands of links to a page to get it to rank, will work eventually. BUT it is a huge waste of time and resources, if you can get that same page to rank with virtually no links at all!!

In fact, building thousands of links, at one point or another, might trigger some alarms with google and get your site sandboxed, while if you play it fair and clean, and use the right way of on-site optimization, you actually build a far more solid internet asset!

Anyways, just wanted to give a quick heads up on SEO Duct Tape, I have only read the first 50 pages so far, but it is already been such an eye opener to me, that I felt I had to share it here!

I don´t really care about the keyword research stuff, because I have my own theories on that, and they are working for me, but the information on how to use all the different plugins available, to turn your wp blog into, what I´d almost call, a “SEO machine”, is what really is invaluable, so I will probably post more on that in the future, once I have read it all, applied it to my blogs and seen the results.
