Ever Thought of Monetizing Your Exit Traffic?

I don´t know how long this method has been around and I haven´t really come across many people monetizing exit traffic apart from those annoying “customer service chats” that tell you that you can now get some sort of discount or whatever.
But the other day I came across another service that I hadn´t heard of before and I started thinking back whether I had ever seen anybody trying to monetize their exit traffic this way.
I continued reading the site and the more I thought of it, the more I actually liked it so I decided to sign up with the program and insert the code on some of my pages.
The more I think of it, the better I like the idea, so I thought I´d tell you a bit about just how it works and why, so far, I like the idea of monetizing your exit traffic this way.
How Monetizing Exit Traffic Works
There is a variety of programs and systems you can use to capture the visitors attention when they have decided to leave your site, like those intrusive “chat operators” that just keep writing the standard messages over and over again, have some exit popup open all of a sudden and more annoying things.
ExitJunction however offers the ability of actually offering more value to those visitors that found your site through a search engine. Imagine a visitor looking for something in particular and clicked the link to your site, had a quick look and felt it wasn´t really what he/she was looking for.
Their first instinct is to hit the back button to go straight back to the search engine and see if there is another place that does offer the information he/she wanted to find.
So you had the hit to your site, you didn´t have the information they were looking for and they are gone again, back to the search engine looking for more information. Too bad for you, too bad for your visitors so you could say that is a lose-lose situation.
ExitJunction now gives you the opportunity to turn that lose-lose situation into a win-win one. By placing a simple code between the <head> </head> code on all your webpages (if you are using wordpress, that is really easy peasy to do!) you get a way to monetize your exit traffic if they had found your website through a search engine.
What happens next is that when they do decided your website isn´t what they were looking for and hit that exit button to look for more search results, instead of going straight back to the search engine, they will get on a webpage offering more websites related to the search they had made before.
So in reality you are offering your visitor more sites to look at that match the search they were doing that brought them to your site. That is a win situation for them I´d say because really all that you are doing is suggestion other sites that might interest them and hey, that is what they were looking for in the first place, right?
But all of a sudden, that can turn into a win situation for you as well, seeing that if they find something on that exit page you offer them (looking very similiar to a search page) and they click on it, you will get paid!
I thought that was a pretty cool win-win situation there which made me decide to go for it and give it a try.
The positive side about monetizing your exit traffic this way
- It is completely non-intrusive
- It offers an extra service to those visitors that found your site through a search engine
- It gives you another way to monetize your website without being pushy
The negatives
- You monetize your website
*scratching my head*
Now in my book that really doesn´t sound negative at all!
The thing I was a little worried about at first is that the search page would show up any time your visitor hits the back button, but after setting the code up on one of my website and do a little playing around with it, it turns out this only works if your visitor came to your site from a search engine, so anytime they have found your website through other means, hit the back button while navegating your site or whatever, all works the way it usually works, so that is perfect!
In other words, it won´t disturb your regular visitors at all, nor won´t it interfere with the normal visits, the only way people get to see the special page you can make money with is when they found your site through the search engine, land on your page and hit the back button without looking around on other pages on your site.
Have a look and see how it works yourself, it might just be what you were looking for without even realizing it!
